Why I’m Fundraising

In May 2008, my brother and sister-in-law adopted a beautiful baby boy from Guatemala.  Now, at 18 months, he is a little bundle of energy and has brought so much joy into not just the lives of his parents but of my whole family.

While my brother and his wife were pursuing the adoption, I became involved with Namaste-Direct.  I wanted to find a way to give back to Guatemalan women who struggled to make ends meet.  I’ve been very impressed by the work Namaste does and the commitment of its staff. 

Last November, I traveled to Panajachel, Guatemala to volunteer at Namaste’s annual borrowers’ conference.  It was an amazing and humbling experience to spend four days with 75 women who left their families to come take classes on business, animal husbandry, technology and more.  And to hear first-hand how a loan of $250 has helped their businesses thrive and allowed them to send their children to school.
